Tanzanite

Tanzanite is a blue-violet variety of the mineral zoisite. It is known for its striking trichroism (displaying three different colours when viewed from different angles). Its composition is calcium aluminium silicate. Tanzanite is a relatively recent discovery, first found in 1967. This gemstone is exclusively found in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania, near Mount Kilimanjaro, the only known source in the world, making it a rare and valuable gemstone.
